For a person who is always in a hurry, this charging period is long, however there is a method faster to charge your iPad Mini tablet, but to do this you will need to use the 10W charger supplied with the iPad 1/2/3.
Using that charger reduces the charging time to approximately 2.5 hours, but there is a risk of damaging the battery over time. If Apple included a charger of only 5W in the iPad Mini, then it had a good reason to do so, but if you are not interested in protecting the battery, then you can significantly reduce the charging time.

They have limitation, control and calibration circuit! I've been charging phones for a very long time, there were no problems with their batteries!
nothing is damaged, the processor that manages the charge automatically limits the amperage values absorbed by the battery. I charge all my idevices with a 10W charger from an ipad1 - now also an ipad mini - and it really charges in about two hours or so.
Yes, Apple had a good reason to deliver the 5W adapter: It's cheaper for them and how many tablets they sell adds up...don't take me for granted, I like Apple products but since the death of SJ and the dismissal of those who were developing iOS, Apple is going down

just theory, I use the 10w charger to charge the iPhone 4s/4/3gs and I haven't noticed a lower battery life. I have been charging the 4s for almost 1 year with this type of charger, which is much superior to the 5w one.
I charge the 4s with a 10 W charger in 3,5 hours due to battery autonomy and I had problems, but after I gave it a clean update without installing the backup, it works very well now
The faster the battery is charged, the more the number of recharging cycles is reduced until the margin of 90% from full starts to decrease, so it is better to use the chargers that come with the products.
