Conform companiei Strategy Analytics, la nivel global exista peste 1 miliard de smartphone-uri active in Q3 2012, aceasta fiind prima oara in istorie cand numarul de terminale destepte active depaseste aceasta cifra. In anul 1996 a fost introdusa ideea de telefon destept, de-a lungul anilor ea a evoluat, iar in momentul de fata peste 1 miliard de dispozitive de acest gen sunt active la nivel global. Acum exact un an de zile existau 708 milioane de smartphone-uri active in toata lumea, acum cifra a ajuns la 1.038 miliarde, majoritatea dintre ele ruland iOS si Android OS.

Apple a vandut peste 250 de milioane de iPhone-uri in ultimii ani, in cazul Android-ului cifra este probabil putin mai mare si teoretic am putea spune ca aproape jumatate dintre smartphone-urile active la nivel global ruleaza pe aceste doua sisteme de operare. Restul folosesc Symbian, Windows Phone, Bada OS si alte sisteme de operare mai putin cunoscute, insa important este ca smartphone-urile devin din ce in ce mai importante in viata oricarei persoane. Avand in vedere ca intr-un singur an s-au activat peste 300 de milioane de smartphone-uri la nivel global, ne putem astepta ca pana la sfarsitul anului 2013 cifra sa ajunga la 1.2 – 1.4 miliarde.
