Apple starts recycling programs for its own products, offers money to users in exchange for an old Mac/iDevice

The recycling program for old Mac/iDevices started in the USA by Apple last year was extended this year to Germany, Great Britain and France. The most important European countries for Apple have available a recycling program which allows owners of old Macs/iDevices to take an old product to an Apple store and leave it for recycling in exchange for a sum of money. As you can see in the image above, the amount offered by Apple for an old iPhone 4 is not that big, but it represents around 40% of the price of a new iPhone 4S of 16 GB.

With the Reuse and Recycling Programme, you could turn your old equipment into a brand-new Mac, iPod, iPhone or iPad. Whether it's an iPhone, iPad, Mac or PC computer, working or not, we'll take it and determine if it qualifies for reuse and has a monetary value. If it does, the amount will be credited directly to your bank account. If it doesn't, you can recycle it responsibly through one of our free recycling programs.

The program run by Apple is similar to the buy-back programs run in Romania, but unlike those of our operators, the one of the Apple company gives people money instead of gift cards or vouchers. The program will of course be extended to other countries in the future and maybe Romania will be part of it until the end of 2012.
