Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), has started production of the new smart speaker based on the Siri personal assistant, with the latest rumors suggesting that it will be presented at WWDC 2017, which starts on Monday. Basically, on Monday Apple should show us how this new Siri-based smart speaker works, and then they should also announce the date when they will officially launch it.
Apple's smart speaker will be different from competitors' because it will bring virtual surround sound and will be strongly integrated into Apple's current product line. The audio technology in the new smart speaker will give Apple a competitive advantage over the competition, with the product playing sounds louder and clearer than any other similar smart speaker.
Apple's smart speaker won't have a screen, as some rumors have suggested, but that's not such a bad thing. However, the smart speaker could include sensors that measure the acoustics of a room to automatically adjust the sound level during use, this functionality being non-existent in similar products on the market.
Inventec is the company that produces this smart speaker for those from Apple, it is currently responsible for the manufacture of AirPods headphones. After months and months of testing, the Siri-based smart speaker has been approved to go into production and although it will be presented at WWDC 2017, no one knows when it will be released.
"Introducing a speaker would serve two main purposes: providing a hub to automate appliances and lights via Apple's HomeKit system, and establishing a bulwark inside the home to lock customers more tightly into Apple's network of services."
WWDC 2017 is the conference where Apple will present iOS 11, macOS 10.13, watchOS 4 and tvOS 11, the first beta versions to be released then.
