Google Recommends Websites with Torrents

Google recommends torrent websites for some users who were looking for streaming services, everything being an error of the Google Search algorithms.

Google started a few years ago a long fight with the websites of torrents, the American company making it a mission to remove their links from Google Search. Although Google is constantly trying to remove the links of torrent websites from its Google Search engine, it seems that things are not going exactly as the American company would like.

Google recently displayed, apparently erroneously, the best torrent websites that Americans can use to view pirated content on their computers. In the image below you can see how the results displayed by Google Search look like for Americans who were looking for the best torrent websites, some of them being promoted prominently in the search list.

Google also shows the same torrent websites when users search for popular US streaming services, Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, HBO, etc., among them. Only in Google Search for the USA were these results displayed by the Google company, in the international versions of the website other results were displayed, but in a completely different way.

Google claims that everything is an algorithmic problem since results of this kind for Google Search are automatically displayed by the search engine. It is also extremely difficult for Google to check every possible search to see what kind of inappropriate results are being displayed, but problems like this can be corrected in time.

Google is constantly pressured by the US music and video industries to remove any information about pirated websites from Google Search. Google does its job quite well, in general, but sometimes there are some problems that have nothing to do with a possible bad faith of the company, and of course those search results will disappear quickly after the company has been announced.

"These results are generated algorithmically, but in this particular case, they do not reflect what we had in mind for this feature, and we are looking into it."

Google has the ability to completely remove all torrent websites from its search engine, but only removes some of them, knowing that Google Search is used to search for torrents. If Google Search didn't have torrents listed anymore, then many people would use alternative search engines, so Google doesn't have good enough reasons to remove everything.

Google will continue to wage a deaf battle with torrent websites, but problems of this kind will certainly appear in the future, and the American company will solve them after they are reported to it.
