The call from the Ministry of Health for Romanians in the country

Ministry of Health plasma donation coronavirus

The Ministry of Health is launching today an indirect call for Romanians all over the country, one that is not exactly made for the first time, but which is still coming because there is a need for plasma for the Corona virus patients in this period when everything seems to be close to the point maximum.

The Ministry of Health says that all people who have been vaccinated against the Coronavirus can donate plasma to help those who failed to get vaccinated to be protected, but also those who do not believe in the virus, do not want to protect themselves, etc. , being able to help everyone equally.

"Can I donate plasma after being vaccinated against COVID-19?
Yes, people vaccinated with any of the vaccines authorized and used in Romania can donate plasma. They can also donate blood or platelets after vaccination against COVID-19.
Vaccinated persons do not have a contraindication regarding plasma or blood donation as long as they meet the eligibility criteria for donation. A vaccinated person can donate if he does not suffer from acute or chronic diseases that can exclude him from donating, temporarily or permanently. For the anti-COVID-19 vaccines approved in Romania, there is no contraindication regarding the donation of plasma or blood, because they do not contain live attenuated virus.
Thus, a vaccinated person can donate plasma, blood or platelets after vaccination with the vaccine produced by Pfizer & BioNTech or Moderna, if at least 7 days have passed since the administration of either of the two doses and they have not shown symptoms OR at least 7 have passed days after the remission of any symptom.
In the case of vaccination with the AstraZeneca vaccine, plasma, blood or platelets can be donated 4 weeks after receiving a dose OR after the remission of any post-vaccination symptoms.
*Regarding the donation of convalescent plasma (plasma rich in antibodies), which can be used for the treatment of people suffering from COVID-19, the European Commission recommends compliance with the following criteria:
• This must be collected from people who have gone through the disease (they have at least one positive PCR test);
• No more than 6 months have passed since the infection with SARS-CoV-2;
• At least 14 days have passed since symptoms disappeared or (in the case of asymptomatic forms) at least 14 days have passed since they had a negative test.
• If the persons have also been vaccinated, the previously mentioned additional criteria will apply.
Even though we are in the middle of a pandemic, the need for blood in hospitals remains constant, and that is why it is good to donate blood if we meet the usual conditions to be a donor.
There is the possibility of remote appointment for blood donation, by phone, by email or in some transfusion centers through mobile applications, such as Donorium."
