Valeriu Gheorghita: Important Disclosure Before Wave 4

Valeriu Gheorghita has an important announcement before the 4th wave of infections hits Romania, the CNCAV coordinator stating that based on a recent study done in Romania, it was determined that collective immunity would be between 40% - 50% of the population, including vaccinations.

Valeriu Gheorghita says that this study revealed the fact that in big cities there were 3 times more infected people than the official figures, in small cities there were 9 times more, but the only solution to prevent the 4th wave from bringing us again serious restrictions in Romania.

"What was observed is that in the large urban area, three times more people were detected as being naturally infected with SARS CoV-2 than were officially reported, in contrast to the small urban area where there were nine times more people who had a history of passing through the disease unknown according to antibodies.

We can estimate that a person who has gone through the disease, on average, has an optimal level of protection somewhere in a period of six months. After six months, there are more and more data that show us a decrease in the neutralizing activity of those antibodies obtained as a result of going through the natural disease, compared to the Delta variant. We believe that the cumulative immunity, at the national level, is somewhere between 40-50 percent. This is a rough assessment.”
