BlackHole RAT – a new type of Trojan for Mac OS X

BlackHole RAT is a new type of virus presented by the analysis firm Sophos which stands up that hackers are starting to consider attacking the Mac OS X platform due to the recent success of Apple products. This new trojan is made on one that also affects the Windows platform known as darkComet and in the image above we have a demonstration of the administration panel of this trojan. A hacker can use this panel to display on our Mac a window in which to ask us to enter the administrator name or password, can close the computer, can display a window on the entire screen from which we can only exit by restarting and of course it can run various commands in our operating system.

Security researchers at Sophos have taken the appearance of the "Remote Access Trojan" known as "Blackhole RAT" as a sign that hackers are beginning to take notice of Apple's continued success with the Mac platform. The unfinished malware, said to be based on the Windows RAT "darkComet," allows hackers to remotely send commands or attempt to deceive a Mac user. The darkComet source code is freely available online.

The Mac OS X platform has so far been protected from this kind of attacks due to its very small market share that did not attract the interest of hackers. Since Apple products are starting to be used by more and more people, we may soon have to use antivirus applications on our Macs.
