Some time ago YouTube decided that YouTube application for iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch and Android must not play music, or rather video clips, in the background on any of the terminals on which it is installed, the move being one intended to substantially reduce listening to songs uploaded to the network.
More than that, YouTube sells subscriptions that allow listening to video clips, implicitly music, on mobile terminals, so that users are left without the possibility to enjoy this option on iPhone, iPad or Android, or at least that's how things seem at first glance.
Although the YouTube application for iPhone, iPad or Android refuses to play video clips in the background and we are obliged to keep it permanently open, the YouTube website accessed in Safari does not have such restrictions because Apple's browser allows multimedia content to be played in the background.
How to listen to YouTube music in the background on iPhone or iPad
Very simple :
- You open the browser Safari.
- access youtube.com.
- You search for the desired video clip and start it.
- Press the Home button to close Safari.
- Access Control Center with a swipe from bottom to top, press the Play button and voila, the sound starts playing. In iOS 10, you will also need a swipe from right to left, because the music control menu has been moved.
How to listen to YouTube music in the background on Android
Somewhat as simple:
- Download the Firefox browser from Google Play following this link.
- access youtube.com.
- You search for your favorite video clip and start it.
- Press the Home button to close Firefox and the music will continue to play.
Although it seems something different, we are talking about exactly the same thing as in the case of using the YouTube application, the interface being similar, and if you log into the YouTube website you benefit from exactly the same things, less the restriction regarding listening to music videos in the background which you like.
