Telekom is in a hurry to sell its fixed and mobile services divisions to Orange and RCS & RDS, but this will not happen as quickly as the German group wants at the moment. The recent motion of censure that dismissed the government that is still in office is stopping the plans of those from Telekom regarding the sale of assets in Romania, and this is because another minister will be coming to the Ministry of Communications soon.
Telekom discussed with the current minister and the current officials within the ministry, and not only, about the sale of its divisions in Romania, but since such a big change will take place, it is necessary to wait. Telekom will now have to discuss with the new Minister of Communications regarding the plans he has for Romania, and it is possible that he will have other ideas regarding what should happen to the divisions.
The sale of Telekom is POSTPONED, here are the New PROBLEMS Encountered
Telekom offered the Romanian state the right of pre-emption to buy its shares in case of a sale, and the Romanian government could take advantage of it to buy the fixed services division instead of Orange. At the moment, Telekom's fixed services division generates a quarterly profit of several tens of millions of euros, so the annual profit would be a significant contribution to the state budget, of course if the management will be professional.
Telekom discussed with Orange certain terms for the sale of the fixed services division, and the Romanian state could now come up with other claims, especially since the sale of the fixed services division to RCS & RDS is very complicated. All this together represents a problem for Telekom, which now has to wait at least a week until the new government will be voted in, and then who knows how long until the new people will get to this problem as well.
Telekom knows that there is a new rather long waiting period until it receives a decision on the sale, and this could lead to the end and the collapse of the agreement with Orange, or even RCS & RDS.
