The Romanian government invested hundreds of millions of lei

The Government of Romania made a very important announcement this week, confirming the fact that he will invest several hundred million LEI for the benefit of Romanians in a very bold plan. The Romanian government has allocated the sum of 232 million LEI to make a major upgrade of the TETRA communications system, the one used by the authorities for communications in emergency situations, so everything will be to the great benefit of the Romanians.

The Romanian government claims that the investment of 232 million LEI in the TETRA system will reduce the reaction time of the authorities by 5 seconds, from 120 seconds, to 115 seconds. The very large investment made by the Romanian Government is necessary because most of the computers used in this communication system use the Windows XP operating system, so they are outdated in all respects, and Microsoft no longer provides support for the OS.

The Romanian government will not only buy licenses for a newer Windows, but will also buy a lot of computers, plus a variety of other communication equipment, and not only that. The Romanian government wants to ensure a 99% coverage with equipment for the entire geographical area of Romania, but also a 90% coverage for the communications made through mobile terminals by the people who have to respond in emergency situations.

"The system monitoring and administration applications, as well as the functional ones on the dispatcher consoles in the system, are compatible in the current version only with the Windows XP operating system, a system for which the manufacturer Microsoft no longer provides support or licenses. In addition, current computers are no longer hardware compatible with this operating system, necessitating the use of outdated IT systems, even if new workstations are installed."

The Romanian government has kept postponing over the years to make any investment in the TETRA system, so now it is allocating 232 million LEi for all these purchases that will be effective for a period of 36 months. The Romanian government is investing in this upgrade at the national level, so all the terminals that are part of the TETRA communication system will be replaced with newer ones, but for now it is not known which version of Windows will be bought, although it is very possible that it will be about Windows 10.

The Romanian government makes these investments separately from those for 112, but combined they should substantially reduce the response times to emergencies reported by Romanians to this service as well.
