Romanian Government: State of Alert Extended until November 2021

The Romanian government, as expected, decided to extend the state of alert in our country until November of 2021, something perfectly logical since we are going through the strongest wave of infections in the entire Coronavirus pandemic, and things will not back to normal soon.

The Romanian government has extended the state of alert for another 30 days with the extension of all the measures that are already in force, so that from October 10, when the extension will come into force, absolutely nothing will change in terms of the measures imposed for Romanians.

"As announced by the Prime Minister, today the government decision was adopted extending the state of alert starting from October 10. The decision provides for the continuation of the measures, this is what I want to specify, that, in fact, the decision does not provide for anything new, it only extends the current measures.

At the moment when the current decision ends, the extension decision automatically enters. I want to emphasize that the actual measures are provided for in Law 55 of 2020, which establishes the measures adopted during the state of alert that involve limiting the exercise of some fundamental rights and freedoms in order to ensure an adequate protection of the right to life, to physical and mental integrity and to health protection.

By ruling, we are only extending the measures and adopting what was provided for in the law. We do not legislate, but only determine which measures are implemented from what is provided for in Law 55.

As I said, the draft decision does not come with anything new, it is only the extension of the situation that is so far for another 30 days. Thus, the legal experts we have and the Ministry of Justice considered that the project falls within the situations provided for in article 110 paragraph 4 of the Romanian Constitution, republished, and represents an act of administration of public affairs necessary for the good administration of the government. So that's about the government decision. The measures do not change, the same incidences remain, the same known measures remain and will continue to be implemented for another 30 days."
