Government of Romania: Meetings with Farmers' Associations from Romania

Government of Romania Meetings with Farmers' Associations from Romania

The Romanian government had a meeting today with the associations of farmers producing seeds and sunflowers that focused on food security, and you probably remember the false information that generated hysteria and queues to buy oil, and the details are below.

"Prime Minister Nicolae-Ionel Ciucă discussed today with the representatives of associations of farmers and producers of sunflower seeds and oil about food security, ensuring the necessary stocks for the internal market, as well as about the government's solutions to the problems faced by this section.

"We wanted to have these consultations in order to receive assurances directly from the source that there are sufficient oil stocks for the population, including in case there is additional market demand. Romania has a very important agricultural potential, and the new government measures we are considering will support this extremely important field for the economy", said the Prime Minister.

Discussions centered around the objective of increasing the areas under sunflower cultivation, seed production and, in particular, the level of seed processing and production of sunflower oil, for the domestic market and for export.

Romania can play an important role at the level of the European Union to compensate for the loss of imports from Ukraine, given that our country is one of the main exporters of cereals, stressed Prime Minister Nicolae-Ionel Ciucă.

Our country can thus contribute to the food security of the European Union and third countries, which are strongly affected by the consequences of aggression in Ukraine.

During the consultations, the difficulties in this sector were analyzed, generated by the lack of medium and long-term credits, the volatile situation of the labor force and the problem of fertilizers used for agricultural crops."
