Yesterday, the Romanian government discussed an emergency ordinance that targets the online platforms Facebook, Instagram, Amazon, and others that allow the promotion of businesses in Romania, the purpose being to impose some rules regarding the way in which they carry out their activity.

The Romanian government wants the authorities to fine these companies if they misbehave with the traders who promote their products through them, and everything is described in detail in the document below.

"The purpose of this emergency ordinance is to ensure the application and compliance with the provisions of Regulation (EU) 2019/1150 of the European Parliament and of the Council of June 20, 2019 on the promotion of fairness and transparency for companies using online intermediation services and establishes the necessary measures applicable in the case of its violation.

(1) The provisions of this emergency ordinance apply to online intermediation service providers and online search engine providers who provide or offer to provide services to companies using online intermediation services and, respectively, to professional website users, who have their seat or residence on the territory of Romania and who, through online intermediary services or online search engines
respectively, offer goods or services to consumers located on the territory of the European Union, regardless of the place of establishment or residence of the respective service providers and regardless of the applicable law."
