AT&T sued for overcharging the bills of iPhone and iPad owners

AT&T is the US carrier with the most iDevices users. Apple had an exclusivity contract with AT&T regarding the sale of iPhone terminals, a contract that will end in just 2 days when Verizon starts selling iPhone 4 CDMA. Considering the large number of owners of iDevices (who do crazy traffic most of the time), someone was found to sue AT&T accusing the company that overcharges internet bills. An American man sued the company claiming that AT&T repeatedly overcharged his monthly bill with connections that did not actually occur.

"AT&T's billing system for iPhone and iPad data transactions is like a rigged gas pump that charges for a full gallon when it pumps only nine-tenths of a gallon into your car's tank," the complaint read. "This is like a rigged gas pump charging you when you never even pulled your car into the station," the lawsuit stated. "Many of these charges were phantom data transactions that never happened or were never initiated or experienced by Mr. Hendricks," the lawsuit claimed. "The remainder of these charges were systematically inflated in terms of the actual amount of data used."

The man also talked to a consulting firm that made some checks and claims that indeed AT&T would charge non-existent connections in invoices. The problem is not singular because on Apple's discussion forums various people have appeared who claim the same thing, so in reality there could be a problem. We all know that things like this can happen to anyone and companies in Romania have been accused of similar practices, but it's hard to prove something like that. Now more Americans will join in the same action and fight against the "oppressors" from AT&T who would have overcharged their bills.
