The iPad 2 has a screen almost as good as the Retina Display

There were many rumors indicating that the iPad 2 would have a Retina Display like the iPhone 4 and iPod Touch 4G, but in the end it turned out that Apple chose to implement a screen with the same resolution as the iPad but with a density of pixels much smaller than the iPhone 4. Dr. Raymond Soneira from DisplayMate Technologies claims that the iPad 2 has an extremely good screen whose performance is similar to that of a Retina Display in the iPhone 4. Soneira made a article very complex in which he compared the screens of an iPhone 3GS and an iPhone 4 with that of an iPad 2 tablet. Soneira demonstrated that in terms of color "depth" and contrast ratio, the iPad 2 screen is very close in performance to that of the iPhone 4.

In quite an in-depth and thorough examination of the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 and iPad 2 displays, it was revealed that for most specifications from hardware color depth to black levels to contrast ratio, the iPad 2's display matched or was close to the iPhone 4's specifications and both were classified as 'Excellent' by the report. There were, however, two issues with the iPad 2's display that Dr. Soneira believed could be improved by Apple through a software update.

Although in these respects the iPad 2 has an excellent screen, Raymond Soneira claims that there are still 2 things that Apple could improve in a future software update. The first has to do with anti-aliasing, which could be greatly improved so that the texts displayed on the screen are much clearer, and the solution to this problem could be done through a simple iOS update. The second problem has to do with the auto-brightness of the devices, which is set according to the ambient light detected when we unlock the device, and unfortunately the brightness does not change according to the ambient light in which the device is used, but only according to the one in which device is used when it is unlocked. Apple could solve this problem just as easily with a simple iOS update.

In conclusion, the iPad 2 does not have a Retina Display, but according to Dr. Raymon Soneira, it has a screen with similar performance.
