McDonalds recently ran an extremely interesting advertising campaign in Sweden that allowed iPhone owners to play from the terminal a game that was displayed on a huge billboard mounted on a building. The interesting part is that users do not have to download an application to play, but simply access a website that uses the GPS in the terminal to locate them and allows them to control the game that was displayed on the huge panel. Those who played and won got discount coupons for McDonalds stores in the Swedish capital.

By completing the game in 30 seconds you win coupons for free food in the nearest McDonald's restaurant.

What is especially interesting about this technology is that you don't actually have to download an app, which normally causes quite a big barrier to entry. Instead the phone picks up your location and you can join the game via a website address.

I think it's the most innovative campaign I've seen lately and I think it's a first for iPhone owners.
