Today marks 3 years since launch of what was to be the largest virtual application store in the world, but also a standard in the industry. On July 10, 2008, Apple launched the App Store together with iOS 2 and an iPhone 3G that was to be available starting on July 11. The App Store has grown in 3 years, reaching today to host over 425.000 applications and collect over 15 billion downloads. The App Store application launched on July 11, 2011 was present in over 200 million iPhone terminals and will certainly be present in the next generations to be launched.
Until now, Apple has approved over half a million applications, but over 75.000 of them were either withdrawn by the developers or by Apple. 100.000 applications for iPad are available in the App Store and their number increases every month. Without the App Store, iOS and iDevices would not be as loved by the hundreds of millions of people who have purchased such a device, and I hope that in another 3 years we will be talking as nicely about the App Store.
