The largest Apple store could be built in Grand Central Station

The Grand Central Station in New York is one of the largest and busiest stations in the world, with hundreds of thousands of people crossing its threshold daily. It has been rumored for several months that Apple would be interested in building a store inside this station and according to those from New York Times these plans could become reality this year. Apparently the municipality of New York has auctioned no less than 74 commercial points inside the train station and Apple seems to be interested in purchasing some of them.

When Apple proposed opening a store on the balcony overlooking the main hall, it submitted its bid in linen-lined boxes, as if it were a wedding present to transit officials, a source familiar with the application process said. The board is expected to approve the deal as early as next week, at its monthly board meeting.

If Apple succeeds in obtaining the necessary authorizations, then in Grand Central Station we will have the largest Apple store in the world. At the moment, the Covent Garden Apple store in London holds this title, but things could change by the end of this year or perhaps at the beginning of next year. For Apple, the 700.000 travelers who travel daily through Grand Central Station represent possible customers and the opportunity to have a store in one of the most prestigious buildings in the US will surely be closely watched by the company's management.
