Over one million applications for iOS and Android OS by the end of 2011

iOS and Android OS are the most important operating systems for mobile terminals and up to now almost 1 million applications have been developed for them. Of these 1 million applications developed over the years, only 800.000 of them are still available, 200.000 being withdrawn, deleted by developers or the application project was not completed. Regarding the platform for which the most applications were launched, of course iOS comes out ahead, but with only 4% or 40.000 more applications than Android OS.

There you go. We just hit the significant milestone. If you take all the apps ever Now careful: those 1 million apps are not all active. 800k in total has assets. But still that is an impressive milestone reached in a few years and an incredible level of activity led by the developers' community. For those asking out of this million 52% have iOS apps.

The information comes from the company Appsfire which lists both the applications from the Android Market and those launched outside of it, and in the case of iOS we are only talking about the App Store. They only talk about applications developed or under development and not necessarily launched for the 2 platforms, so in reality the 20% difference between the number of applications developed and those available could represent to a good extent only started and unfinished projects. Whatever the situation, the number of applications developed for the 2 platforms is enormous and will certainly increase considerably in the years to come.
