iOS 5 – problems with unlock

This evening iOS 5 will be officially launched by the Apple company and many of you will be tempted to update to the new version of the operating system. Unfortunately for those who need decoding there is a very big problem because at the moment ultrasn0w is NOT compatible with iOS 5 and there are no jailbreak programs for the final version of the operating system. I will divide the explanations into two parts, one for the owners of iPhone 4 terminals that use Gevey 3G and one for the rest of the owners of iPhone terminals.

iPhone 4 – Gevey 3G

The 04.10.01 baseband is the last one that can be decoded with the famous Gevey 3G cards and starting with iOS 5 beta 2 Apple has blocked the possibility of decoding another iPhone using those cards. In the final version of iOS 5, the cards will not miraculously become compatible, so DO NOT update in the hope that they will work without problems. The only way to 100% sure to keep the baseband intact during the upgrade is to use a custom ipsw made with PwnageTool or sn0wbreeze but neither program is compatible with iOS 5 yet. It is possible that sn0wbreeze 2.8 beta 8 will recognize the version the final of iOS 5, but I would wait until the Dev Team and iH8sn0w release new versions of their own programs that will allow us to make a custom ipsw and keep the baseband intact during the restore. Gevey will work on iOS 5 final but the baseband of your terminal must be 04.10.01 or lower.

iPhone 3GS/4 – ultrasn0w

At the moment ultrasn0w is not compatible with iOS 5, so it doesn't matter if you have decodable baseband because you won't be able to unlock. The Dev Team will update ultrasn0w during this evening or in the following days, but not before releasing PwnageTool, so you will have to wait. My advice is to stay calm on iOS 4 until the Dev Team releases programs compatible with iOS 5.

That's about it, I don't know when a decoding solution for the iOS 5 basebands will be released and I don't know if there will be a solution that will allow you to downgrade the baseband for version 06.15.00.
