Are Apple's partners starting to produce retina screens for the iPad 3?

After morning news which made it clear that in iOS 5 of the Apple company there are references regarding the possible launch of an iPad 3 tablet with Retina Display, those from cNET I am here to confirm that Apple is indeed planning to launch an iPad 3 tablet with this kind of screen. They quote an American analyst who in turn speaks from hearsay about the information provided by sources inside Apple's partner companies and it seems that Samsung, LGD and Sharp have been chosen to produce the retina screens of the iPad 3.

Production has started on the high-resolution displays destined for the next-generation iPad, while Apple eyes a 7.85-inch iPad further down the road, an analyst told CNET today. “It's happening–QXGA, 2048×1536. Panel production has started [for the next-generation iPad]. There are three suppliers," Richard Shim, an analyst at DisplaySearch, said in an interview today. Shim confirmed other reports that cite three companies, Samsung, Sharp, and LGD.

2048×1536 seems to be the resolution of the new QXVGA screen from Apple, a screen that uses the IPS technology of current devices, so theoretically we are only talking about a doubling of the resolution available in current tablets. It was said that Apple's partners would not have perfected the manufacturing technology of this type of screens, but Apple seems to have solved the problem by contracting three different manufacturers who should produce several million screens by January. According to the American analyst, Apple would have the first iPad 3 tablets somewhere around the end of December, but by February-March the company would gather enough units for an official launch.

Considering the rumors from last summer that were related to the iPhone 5, we have to look at this one with a BIG dose of mistrust. However, something is happening at Apple and it could be about one of the following two things: iPad 3 will not have Retina Display and everything is just "dust in the eyes", or iPad 3 will have Retina Display and everything is true. Next year we will find out the outcome.
