Smartphones extend the working day by another 2 hours (Video)

Smartphones and tablets are generally used for games, accessing social networks, utility applications, but many business people also use the devices to answer emails, call customers, etc. A study done recently in several countries around the world reveals that smartphones extend, on average, 2 hours to the usual working day. Practically, an employee spends 8 hours at work and 2 more hours interacting with clients/partners directly from his smartphone.

About 1 in 10 people report spending an extra three hours of work checking emails and taking calls. Nearly two-thirds of survey respondents start work correspondence as soon as they wake up, at around 6 am or 7 am, and before they go to bed, around 11 pm or midnight. For some, it's a never-ending cycle because having a smartphone makes them feel like they are on-call all the time.

In Great Britain, they work a bit more than in Romania, and there the employees answer emails and phone calls even after the shift ends, or before it starts. In this way, they manage to accumulate more than 10 hours of work, but they also have adequate salaries. Practically, smartphones "connect" you to work at any time of the day or night, and in certain cases the employees end up interacting with everyone regardless of whether it's a working day or the weekend.
