Microsoft was sued for the way it presents the storage capacity of the Microsoft Surface

Microsoft Suface tablets are available in versions that theoretically offer 32 GB or 64 GB of storage space, but in reality users receive much less. Microsoft has confirmed that the operating system and native applications occupy 16 GB of storage space, so a tablet sold with 32 GB of space actually has only half. An American lawyer was not satisfied with the way Microsoft promotes its products, he considers the advertisement to be false, so decided to take the company to court.

A California lawyer is suing Microsoft Corp., claiming the Surface tablet he bought doesn't have all the storage space the company advertised. Andrew Sokolowski, a lawyer in Los Angeles, claims that he bought a Surface with 32 gigabytes of storage last week. But he quickly ran out of space after loading it with music and Microsoft Word documents. He discovered that a significant portion of the 32 GB storage space was being used by the operating system and pre-installed apps such as Word and Excel. Only 16 GB was available for him to use.

The lawyer bought a Microsoft Surface tablet, started copying various files to it and discovered that of the 32 GB that the tablet would have, only 16 are accessible, and this did not satisfy him. Microsoft specifies on its website that the tablets do not offer all the storage space presented in the advertisements, but the information is not visible and must be searched carefully. Those from Microsoft defend themselves by saying that users already know about this shortcoming and that the space can be increased with the help of an SD card, but Microsoft will probably pay a lot of money for this way of advertising.

The truth is that no product offers exactly what is specified in the advertisements, but in general the difference is small and in the case of Apple products we are talking about 1-3 GB, the space being occupied by the operating system and other applications. In the case of those from Microsoft, we are talking about 16 GB of space that disappears when the operating system is installed, and this is not really well received by users.
