I don't know how many of you need something like this, but today I present it to you Vavuud Wind Meter, an accessory for terminals iPhone which allows you to measure the wind speed in just a few seconds. Wind Meter connects wirelessly to an application for iPhone, uses magnets to help us measure wind speed, and in the video clip above you can see the entire technology presented by its creators. Using the magnets and the magnetometer from the iPhone, the accessory connects to the application specially designed for iOS and displays the measurement results.
The Vaavud wind meter enables you to take precise and reliable measurements of the wind anywhere, using your iOS or Android phone. The Vaavud wind meter contains no electronics, but still connects wirelessly to your phone... Wait, what?? The secret is two small magnets in the rotor. The magnetic field sensor in the phone can detect when they rotate, and by using algorithms normally used for sound processing, the rotations can be converted to wind speed. Complicated engineering, made user friendly and simple. In fact, nobody has used the smartphone magnetometer in this way before.
Although it is only for now a project of kickstarter, the Vavuud Wind Meter is close to completing funding, and a product would cost around £30 if the whole project raises enough funds to reach the market.
