Apple acquires the BookLamp company

BookLamp is an American company specialized in offering personalized recommendations for books with the help of its own algorithms, Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), purchasing it at the beginning of this year. Closed in April, the service had developed a system called Book Genome which analyzes the content of the books and divides it into various themes to help users more easily discover the books they are interested in.

Part of the reason that Apple made the move to acquire BookLamp was because of this long list of clients. "At first Apple and BookLamp talked about growing their contract, but then they talked more from a strategic standpoint," a source says. "What Apple wanted to do was, instead of contract, they wanted to make sure whatever work was done was done just for them."

Using this technology, the company Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), can radically improve iBookand the book recommendation system through iBookstore, the acquisition of the company being quite logical, especially as Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), work with her for some time. Apple's long-term goal is to beat Amazon in digital book sales, and spending $10 million to $15 million on BookLamp isn't such a big risk.
