Apple cannot sell the Apple Watch in the country of its fiercest competitors

Launch of Apple Watch Romania

Apple Watch is ready for launch in 9 countries around the globe, others being scheduled to follow those included in the initial launch, but the Apple company seems to have problems selling its Apple Watch in Switzerland due to a patent held by a local watch manufacturer. William Longe, registered in 1985 a patent that is so comprehensively thought that it prevents Apple from selling in the country a watch that has the name Apple or that has the image of an apple, the patent holder selling watches under the Leonard brand in Switzerland.

with in sight the way the patent was thought and its long existence, the Apple company has nothing to do but wait for December 5th when the patent would expire and try to prevent the extension of its registration in its current form in order to be able to sell its watch in the country. Of course, Apple could even reach an agreement with the patent holder to sell its watches in Switzerland, this country having a multitude of watch manufacturers, many of them seeing Apple as a dangerous competitor that could seriously reduce their sales in the next years.

Given the way Apple generally acts, it is expected that a court action will be introduced to force the sale of the Apple Watch in Switzerland, but we will see how things evolve.
