How Apple hid the new iPhone 5 Lightning cable from employees

The Apple company places an extremely high emphasis on security and keeping secrets regarding what happens within it, especially when it comes to the launch of new products, and today I will tell you about a story that one of the former employees of Cupertino has presented it in an interview.

According to this former employee, the Apple company does not trust the employees in its stores, so that during the launch of the iPhone 5, when it implemented the new Lightning port in its products for the first time, it took care to keep everything a secret from the employees in the stores, the method used being unusual.

More precisely, shortly before the launch of the iPhone 5, the Apple company delivered to its stores the new types of cables that were to be used for the devices, but did not tell the Apple Store employees exactly what they had in the box, they thought they were getting actually the standard cables used for the then existing products.

In fact, the Apple company had delivered cables that had a piece of plastic placed over the Lightning connector, which gave the impression that that cable actually had 30 pins, when in reality it was about the new product, the employees being informed about their existence only after the official announcement made by Apple.

We were never given inside information on any new product releases or designs. I remember when the iPhone 5 came out, we got a shipment of the newer Lightning Cables a little bit before the announcement. Even something as simple as the design of the new cable was such a secret that when they originally sent them to us, they were disguised inside a mock enclosure that mimicked the older, 30-pin cable design. When the new cable was unveiled, they sent us instructions on how to pry these enclosures open to reveal the newer connector secretly housed inside of the older ones. Crazy stuff.

The even weirder part is that all those cables had to be undone with a special method for the real Lightning connector to be displayed, and that's how Apple made sure that no employee would divulge their secret before the official conference.
