George Hotz, or geohot, is the most famous hacker developer of jailbreak solutions for iPhone and iPad, he even launched the first unlock solution for iPhone. Over the years he has released several other jailbreak solutions for iPhone and iPad, but until recently he wanted to release an autonomous guidance system for cars, but his attempts were doomed to failure.
Because he is a passionate hacker, geohot wants to launch a device for only 90 dollars that allows any person to "hack" his car. This device will use a software called Cabana, which will give drivers the opportunity to see readings from all the sensors that the cars have integrated, for an overview of its condition.
Geohot's company, Comma.ai, also wants to make a public database with information from car sensors and help drivers understand the information provided by them. The device sold by geohot connects to computers and smartphones to display the data taken from the drivers' cars, so the information can be seen very easily by them after connecting the device to the car.
The Chfr application, developed by geohot in the past to allow the recording of car trips, can record and save the data that the device receives from the car's sensors. "Comma.ai is going to start selling a piece of hardware that, when coupled with its new "Cabana" software, will help owners see everything the sensors in their cars are doing. Comma.ai is also launching what Hotz describes as a decoder ring for your car. The goal is to build a repository with a DBC file for every car ever manufactured and democratize access to the decoder ring for your car."
From the exact level of the fuel, to the pressure in the turbine, the oil level in the engine, information about the pressure of the air drawn by the car, etc., the device can display almost everything that is monitored with a sensor. geohot announced that its devices can be ordered now and will be delivered to customers in a few weeks, they will enable the easier development of guided navigation systems.
