STS: IMPORTANT announcement for 112, what the Romanian authorities have done

sts announcement 112

STS announced yesterday that in 2019 a historical record was registered for Romania, and this because the number of false calls made to 112 was reduced by half, something that should make everyone happy. Thanks to this substantial reduction in false calls to the 112 emergency service, Romania is one of the very few countries where the average response time to citizens' calls is much lower than the recommendations from the EU.

112 had numerous problems last summer when the tragedy in Caracal scandalized the whole of Romania, and STS and the authorities from the MAI promised that things would change in our country, and it seems that this has happened. In 2019, the average transfer time of a 112 call from the STS operators to the dispatchers of the intervention services was 54.25 seconds, and this is because in many of them more staff are needed to take calls.

STS: IMPORTANT announcement for 112, what the Romanian authorities have done

However, STS announced that the average time for taking over emergency calls in Romania is 4.35 seconds, almost 3 times lower than the recommendations from the European Union for these services. Practically, STS operators from the 112 emergency service manage to take emergency calls extremely quickly after a person initiates the phone call, and this is a sign that help can come to people in a timely manner.

"In 2019, the average transfer time of a call from STS operators to the dispatchers of the intervention agencies was 54,25 seconds, and the average call pickup time is 4,35 seconds. Compared to the performance index recommended by EENA (European Emergency Number Association), whose value for the average retrieval time is 12 seconds, the average retrieval time in Romania is almost three times lower."

STS publicly explained the fact that many improvements are needed for the way the 112 emergency service works, and those from the MAI have committed to making them, some of them starting to produce the effects. Romania is one of the very few countries where the average telephone call answering times are so low at the moment, and most likely they will be maintained at this level for as long as possible in the future.
