Apple, Google, Dropbox Investigated by European Authorities

Apple, Google, Dropbox Investigate European Authorities

Apple, Google, Dropbox are being investigated by the Italian authorities, and this is because the officials there are of the opinion that the companies' cloud services have not very clear terms regarding how people's data is collected for commercial purposes.

The authorities are also investigating whether the contractual terms allow companies to escape liability if people's data are used in ways that are not exactly legal, and if the investigation will be completed with a confirmation of the suspicions, then fines will be applied.

In July, Italy launched an antitrust investigation against Amazon and Apple because of Beats headphones, and now it launches another one, with a completely different goal, but in the end we are talking about new American companies that are being investigated by the authorities for what they do in Europe .

"The Competition and Markets Authority has initiated six investigations against some of the leading global cloud computing service providers. The parties involved are Google (for the Google Drive service), Apple (for the iCloud service) and Dropbox, each involved in both a proceeding for alleged unfair commercial practices and/or breaches of the Consumer Rights Directive, and one for alleged vexatious clauses included in the contractual conditions."
