Facebook used to predict coronavirus outbreaks

Facebook would have the data from the platform used by scientists to predict where outbreaks of the Coronavirus will be recorded, and everything based on the way people interact within the social network constantly.

Until now, Facebook has had the data used in a study carried out in Australia, where scientists used artificial intelligence to predict quite accurately the locations of three outbreaks of the Coronavirus, and the research seems to have been quite accurate.

The researchers say that their model of discovering the outbreaks of the Coronavirus using data from Facebook can contribute to early detection before dozens of cases are recorded daily in them, and the system could even contribute to a reduction in the number of cases in certain areas.

"Facebook data shows a user's movements throughout the day. Using the de-identified information, Australian researchers built a model that can predict how clusters will spread. The data is especially useful in the early days of an outbreak, before new cases reach dozens a day. Other risk factors – such as a person's job – may also be included in the model. The results are often not surprising, but they are solid evidence on which authorities can base their decisions."
