Romanian Government: The Delta Variant is Dominant, Spreading Rapidly

Government of Romania Delta Dominant Variant Spreads Rapidly

The Romanian government shows us today that the Delta variant of the Coronavirus continues to spread extremely quickly in Romania, unfortunately, the number of new cases confirmed in the last week, having confirmed through sequencing that they are based on this new strain.

"We eliminate concerns only by vaccination!
2.913 cases with SARS-CoV-2 variants of concern (VOC) have been confirmed, of which 1.157 are with the Delta variant.
Given that week 35 was declared nationally sustained community transmission of the Delta variant, deaths from COVID-19 recorded from week 36 onwards are considered to be caused by this variant, except where other VOCs are detected (Beta, Gamma or others, emerging).
From week 36, the Alpha variant no longer represents VOC.
The weekly evolution of the proportion of cases confirmed with the Delta variant from the total number of cases confirmed with VOC has an increasing trend, from a value of 1,5% in week 21, to 39,7% in week 36.
We remind you that one of the selection criteria of the COVID-19 cases for sequencing is vaccination, so the proportion of vaccinated cases from the total number of confirmed cases with the Delta variant does not reflect the situation in the general population, but in a selected group.
Vaccination remains the best solution for protection against COVID-19!
By vaccination against COVID-19:
- the risk of infection is reduced;
- the risk of virus transmission is reduced;
– the risk of hospitalization is considerably reduced;
- the risk of death is considerably reduced.
Cumulative data – including week 36 (06/09/2021-12/09/2021).
