Raed Arafat: Announcement Regarding the Pathogenicity of the Omicron Variant of COVID-19

Raed Arafat made a very important announcement today regarding the pathogenic impact of the Omicron variant of COVID-19, and this is because despite the very large number of new cases in Romania, hospitalizations have remained at a low level recently.

"So the fact that the Omicron variant is a variant with less pathogenic impact, that is, it has less impact in terms of its severity, is a very positive thing. Naturally we have to remain cautious. I wouldn't call it worrying, it's not worrying.

It's a situation that calls for caution for the next two to three weeks until we peak and then see it start to decline. So this is it: it must be monitored, it must be adapted, the basic rules must be respected and this is what we insist on, and especially the rule with wearing a mask, which we consider to be perhaps the most effective method, except for vaccination, which, again, can prevent reaching a serious condition and reaching intensive care and even death in cases.

For the rest, we are waiting to see what the evolution will be and at some point the number of Delta cases will probably decrease completely and we will have the majority, that is, the vast majority of cases will remain Omicron cases."
