Ukraine War Crisis Cell formed MAE

The war in Ukraine forced the MFA to create a crisis cell at the level of the institution to monitor the ongoing situation in the neighboring country, but also to take specific decisions depending on the unfolding of events there.

The invasion of Ukraine by Russia forces the Romanian authorities to look more closely at what is happening in the neighboring country during this period, and the decisions that the crisis cell will take will be announced publicly.

"In the context of the evolution of the security situation in Ukraine, at the disposal of the Minister of Foreign Affairs Bogdan Aurescu, today, February 24, 2022, the Interinstitutional Crisis Cell was convened to support and provide consular assistance to Romanian citizens on Ukrainian territory.

The MAE warns that current security developments are associated with a major risk of unpredictability, instability and armed confrontations.

In this context, the MFA reminds that, since February 21, the alert level for Ukraine has been raised (Leave the country immediately) and once again requests Romanian citizens to urgently leave the territory of this state, as well as to avoid any movement in Ukraine.

The MFA informs that the consular staff of the diplomatic mission in Kiev and the consular offices in Chernivtsi, Odessa and Solotvino are in permanent contact both with the Romanian citizens who have registered their presence in Ukraine so far, as well as with the leaders of the Romanian associative environment in this the country. Up to this moment, 30 Romanian citizens have contacted the MFA for information related to the situation in Ukraine or to inform about the decision to leave this state.

Also, the MAE is in direct contact with the competent Romanian authorities in order to manage possible evacuations from Ukraine and maintains permanent contact with foreign diplomatic missions and offices accredited in Romania that have requested support for providing consular assistance to their own citizens.

The MFA reiterates the request to all Romanian citizens who are in Ukraine to notify, as a matter of urgency, the coordinates of their presence in Ukraine through the online platform or by contacting the MFA at the telephone number 0040751084537. This telephone line is dedicated to Romanian citizens who are temporarily in Ukraine and who request consular protection and assistance from the MFA."
