Minister of Health: Last Minute Warning regarding the Lifting of Restrictions

The Minister of Health sends a last-minute warning regarding the lifting of restrictions in Romania in the immediate following period, and this is because the doctor still recommends that we be careful and protect ourselves, and the same should be done even after the lifting of restrictions.

The Minister of Health conveys that the lifting of the restrictions will not be done as soon as the community transmission is rushed, not even in schools, but also that their non-introduction in the future depends very much on the behavior that the Romanians will have after they have the freedom to do more of the which they were doing until now.

"As long as we have community transmission, I think it's a hasty measure, if you will. I think we can do this not only with students, but also with other categories of people when community transmission disappears. We are still talking about 10.000 new cases that are registered daily, and this means that there is circulation and it is good to have a responsible conduct.

Thanks to this responsible behavior and the fact that we decided, at the level of the Romanian Government, to keep the schools open, we managed to overcome this wave. The number of children who ended up being hospitalized is reduced, as well as the number of children admitted to intensive care units.

That proves that keeping schools open was the right thing to do, wearing the mask indoors was also the right thing to do, and we're going to keep it going, obviously, until that community transmission is greatly reduced.

I think this is the responsible conduct: balance, relaxation measures that are monitored to see if the situation stabilizes or goes further into a favorable zone and a new step of relaxations.

If you lift all the measures in one step, there is a very high risk of going back to restrictions, or what we want is not to go back to restrictions and to have sustainability and predictability for all economic agents and the population, in general. I think that's the thing that everybody wants, rather than rushing and not getting it right, we'd better have a phase-in, as I told you, which I think will start soon."
