Romania still needs to receive 26 million doses of the vaccine against the Coronavirus

Romania received 26 million doses of vaccine against the Coronavirus

Romania has yet to receive 26 million doses of the vaccine against the Coronavirus, according to statements made by the Minister of Health, Alexandru Rafila, in an online show, the figure sums up everything that should be delivered to our country both during 2022 and and during 2023, from the contracted producers.

These doses of the vaccine against the Coronavirus should be delivered even if Romania has 8 million doses unused and stored at the moment, so we are talking about a large surplus that could remain unused for a long period of time, or could be thrown away if it expires before use.

Alexandru Rafila states that it is possible to extend the validity of vaccines existing in the stocks of several countries so that they do not expire, but everything depends on the tests that will be done for the serum in order to see if a longer storage period maintains its ability to generate an immune response against the Coronavirus.

Romania is among the signatories of a letter asking the European Commission to cancel deliveries of coronavirus vaccine doses in 2022 and 2023, but this seems unlikely, as does replacing these doses with some of a new version of the vaccines Pfizier and Moderna, which would generate a better immune response to COVID-19.
