Today, the Minister of Sports signed an order that establishes a first in Romania, and this is because in the official matches of national sports competitions, in team sports, there is now the obligation that at least 40% of the athletes on the field be Romanian.

After years, and years, of days of requests for the imposition of such an obligation for sports competitions in Romania, finally it is imposed from a legal point of view, and you can find more details below from the Minister of Sports.

"The Minister of Sports, Eduard Novak, signed the order that establishes the obligation of a participation weight of at least 40% of Romanian athletes, from the total number of athletes participating in official national sports competitions, in team sports.

The objective of this measure is to support high-performance sports and Romanian athletes, and implementation will be carried out by the national sports federations, through their own statutes and regulations, starting with the next competitive season, 2022-2023.

After consulting with all sports federations, I issued a ministerial order regarding the participation rate of Romanian performance athletes at senior and junior level in all official national sports competitions.

Thus, starting with the 2022-2023 competition season, this share cannot be less than 40% of the total number of participating athletes who can perform on the field during a match for each team. So at least 40% of the athletes present on the field during the official matches must be Romanian.

And the national sports federations have the obligation to comply with the provisions of this ministerial order. It is a decision that will certainly help Romania's national teams in team sports. I thank all the federations for supporting this decision and success in its implementation."
