iOS 8.2 – battery problems and solutions

iOS 8.2 battery problems

Battery problems in iOS 8.2 were reported by a large number of users during these days, most of them claiming that the intensive use of the terminals was not "to blame" for the rapid decrease in the energy of the terminals. Although many people have tried various tricks to improve battery in iOS 8.2, few have discovered a source of consumption that extremely many people do not need in everyday life. I'm talking about the M7 or m8 motion co-processor implemented in the iPhone 5S, iPhone 6 si 6 iPhone Plus or the latest iPad tablets, this being natively activated for the Health application.

iOS 8 battery problems and solutions

  1. Open the Settings application.
  2. Access the Privacy, Intimacy menu.
  3. Go to the Movement and Fitness sub-menu.
  4. Disable the Health option and then the Fitness Tracking option.

Being always active, this movement co-processor follows all our walks around the house or outside to provide details about our daily activity, consuming enough energy in the process. Disabling the M7 or M8 motion co-processor has the effect of solving battery problems in iOS 8.2, with a multitude of people reporting this after applying the steps mentioned above. Of course, you will no longer see information about movements or fitness exercises in the Health application, Sanatate, or other fitness applications, but at least you will have a much better battery life than in the past.

Did this trick work for you?

  1. And Mr. Zaone, on the iPhone 5, what else do I disable because I don't have a battery co-processor, but the battery still goes to hell?

  2. I installed ios 22 yesterday around 00:8.2. charging 100% until now, I have 52% battery with 2 hours 38 minutes of use (used a bit on wifi, a few phone calls, about 10-15 minutes) and 22 hours at rest. I mention that I stopped "motion & fitness" as of last night. How about your use? does anyone on ios 8.1.3 have a better battery in these conditions of use? what are your opinions
    Thank you!

  3. it's not like that. there are 2 branches there that could be related: "Health" and "Motion activity". In both the submenu is empty and only says "apps that have requested data". Clarifications? (probably only from 8.1.3 and above, as you say...

  4. Ironically, the reason for implementing the M7 or M8 co-processor is exactly to be able to retrieve the data provided by the applications that calculate the Fitness data, in a way that does not consume a lot of battery. That's why it's called "Motion Co-Processor". In my opinion, there shouldn't be much of a difference in battery life once this feature is turned off, but I can't say I've tried it either. On iPhone 6 Plus it is not even needed (as in my case).

  5. Absolutely no change. It drains the battery just as fast. I charge it at least twice a day (one-year-old iPhone 5s). As if the call delay is shorter and there is no longer a delay when you end a call so that the click tone is no longer heard.

  6. @claudiu77 it seems that others have improved (perhaps only mentally). This is the battery on the 5s. It cannot be improved by updating, only by turning off many functions such as gsm, screen off, etc. Then it is not consumed so quickly, but it is still consumed

  7. Spectacular improvement! I don't know the "culprit", iOS 8.2 or the respective deactivation. Anyway, on the 5S I have an increase of at least two hours ... with 4G, Wi-Fi, bluetooth!

  8. You are absolutely right, there is no point in closing the function of this processor, it is not the one that consumes the battery. (I have the same phone)

  9. "Placebo"! It has no effect on the battery (visible, in minutes/hours). The consumption of this function is minimal. The consumption increases only due to the software, installed later, which use the data recorded by this motion processor. For example: Footsteps- Pedometer Free, I installed this software in less than 12 hours, from about 85% battery dropped to about 8% (overnight), which normally had an endurance of about 10, 11 hours of use. I uninstalled the application and everything returned to normal. I installed another application, Pedometer, which does not have a sophisticated interface like the previous one and everything is ok. It consumes about 1-4% of the total consumption, depending on how many times this application is consulted. Before blaming this processor, check who is consuming resources, simply from the general menu-usage-battery usage.

  10. Iphone5s. I kept waiting and I don't see any reason to update from IOS8.1.3 to IOS8.2. I will never buy an Apple watch. On the last charge, the battery lasted 25 hours, of which I used the phone for 6 hours, and during this period, if it was not connected to Wi-Fi, it was on 3G. I charged it at 16%. I noticed that if the phone is connected to Wi-Fi and I disable the data connection, the battery life is significantly extended. Honestly, I don't think that I will do any more updates too soon because these new softwares seem to me to be much too loaded for a 5S. Maybe you know a tip how to get rid of the new software notification from the settings.
