Dupa anuntul Youtube de a schimba deja “imbatranitul” Flash player cu unul nou si mult mai bun bazat pe HTML 5, a venit randul celor de la Vimeo sa se alature proiectului implementand deja tehnologia pentru video-urile existente pe site-ul lor. Tehnologia HTML 5 permite site-urilor de video sharing sa afiseze filmele intr-un player simplu, rapid, care consuma mult mai putine resurse dar care in final merge mult mai bine decat cel pe tehnologia flash.
Trecerea de la Flash la HTML 5 este una de bun augur, nu e nimic rau in schimbare, mai ales intr-o schimbare care ne aduce foarte multe beneficii. Momentan site-ul Youtube va da posibilitatea sa vizualizati filme folosind player-ul flash doar din Google Chrome(nu am Safari instalat, pe IE nu am incercat) si doar dupa ce va dati acordul sa participati la HTML 5 beta, participare care poate acceptata prin accesarea acestei pagini.
Deocamdata player-ul este in versiunea beta si inca nu functioneaza la parametri normal spre exemplu eu pe Youtube nu am reusit sa vizionez vreun film cum trebuie cu player-ul HTML 5 pentru ca in timpul rularii avea obiceiu sa se blocheze si fullscreen-ul nu este suportat inca, dar echipele de la Youtube si Vimeo lucreaza din greu pentru asta.
Iata beneficiile si dezavantajele folosirii tehnologiei HTML 5 :
* The player loads right away — no more spinning butterfly thingy
* You can jump anywhere in the video, without having to wait for it to buffer
* Smoother, less jumpy playback (we hope)
What are the drawbacks?
* It’s a beta test — it might be buggy!
* It only works for about 25% of you: you must be running the latest versions of Safari, Chrome, or IE with Chrome Frame installed.
* It cannot go full screen. Unfortunately this is a limitation of the browsers right now. We are working on adding at least full-window support in the next day or so.
* It only works on Vimeo.com right now, embed code will still be Flash.
* “Only” 90% of videos uploaded in the last year will work in the new player. All told, about 35% of all videos will still require the standard Flash player. In this case, Vimeo will automatically switch for you. It should just always work.
Mie personal imi place ideea si sper sa o perfectioneze in cel mai scurt timp. Pentru iPhone/iPod Touch nu cred ca vor fi probleme, poate va lansa Apple un firmware update si pentru noile playere.
