Tutorial: redsn0w 0.9.6 rc7 quick boot – Windows

I already told you that the Dev Team a out a new version of redsn0w that allows us to do a quick boot of our terminals by simply running some commands instead of the classic process with selecting a custom ipsw and ticking some options. This new process is very helpful for people who have a terminal that has a tethered jailbreak, i.e. any iPhone 3GS(new bootrom)/4, iPad or iPod Touch 2G(new bootrom)/3G/4G with iOS 4.2.1 installed and jailbroken.

I do not recommend this tutorial for those who do not have an average knowledge of working with Windows!

redsn0w 0.9.6 rc7 makes tethered jailbreak for:

  • iPhone 3GS (new bootrom);
  • iPhone 4;
  • iPod Touch 2G (MC – new bootrom);
  • iPod Touch 3G;
  • iPod Touch 4G;
  • iPad.

Owners of iPhone 3G/3GS (old bootrom) and iPod Touch 2G (old bootrom) will be able to jailbreak untethered.

Step 1

Download iOS 4.2.1 for your device by here and redsn0w 0.9.6 rc7 from here: [download id=”109″]

Step 2

Make a folder on the Desktop and move the ipsw file downloaded in step 1 and the redsn0w 0.9.6 rc7 archive into it. After moving the 2 files, unzip redsn0w 0.9.6 rc7.

Step 3

Press Start - the button on the left side of the taskbar - then write in the search box cmd and open the program with administrator privileges, that is, right-click on it and click on Run as Administrator.

If you have a keyboard that has a button with the Windows logo, then press that key plus the letter R on the keyboard, i.e. the Windows key + R and you will open a search box where you will write cmd and you will be able to open the Command Prompt program.

Step 4

Now comes the hard part, entering the commands. After you have opened the cmd or Command Prompt program on your computers, you will have to run the following command in it:

for devices with new bootrom: %homepath%\Desktop\folder name on Desktop\redsn0w_win_0.9.6rc7\redsn0w.exe -j -i %homepath%\Desktop\Pwnage\iPhone3,1_4.2.1_8C148_Restore.ipsw

for devices with old bootrom: %homepath%\Desktop\the name of the folder on the Desktop\redsn0w_win_0.9.6rc7\redsn0w.exe -j -o -i %homepath%\Desktop\Pwnage\iPhone2,1_4.2.1_8C148a_Restore.ipsw

Step 5

redsn0w will start automatically to tell you how to enter your terminal into DFU Mode, if you haven't already done so.

Here are the necessary steps:

  • hold down the power button for 3 seconds;
  • without letting go of the power button, press the Home button for 10 seconds;
  • after the 10 seconds pass, release the Power button and the phone should already be in DFU Mode and redsn0w will start implementing the exploit.

After the terminal restarts, it should be jailbroken and in tethered mode for new bootrom or untethered for old bootrom.
