Those from Mashable had the opportunity to test the Garmin StreetPilot application, the first navigation application developed by Garmin for iDevices owners. The application was tested against a Garmin Nuvi 1690, a genuine GPS produced by the same company. You will see in the video clip above that there are minor differences between the way the iPhone application works and the way the Garmin GPS works. The GPS mode on the iPhone keeps up with a dedicated GPS device, even more so in certain situations it provides the information and the location before it. In the application for iOS you will find almost everything you would normally find on a GPS device from Garmin, the company taking care to include in the software some of the functions that were available to dedicated devices.

Garmin entered the world of iDevices with this application and for now it is only available for the US, but the company is probably already working on the development of a version intended for Europeans. The application costs only $40 and works more than well on an iPhone 4.
