Assistant – a new voice command recognition system for iOS 5

Before the presentation of iOS 5, it was speculated that Apple will implement a new system for recognizing voice commands, but for now, little information has been found in iOS 5 that would indicate this. Those from 9to5mac they obtained information from a person who tests the new iOS 5 for Apple and who claims that the company from Cupertino is testing a new system for recognizing voice commands called Assistant. Apparently this system improves the Nuance system and the Siri system, a company that Apple bought a few years ago. Practically, the new Assistant system will work as a personal assistant, that is, it will allow users to use voice commands to order a movie ticket, make a reservation at a restaurant, etc.

"Assistant" does not work only based off a user's voice inputs, but Apple will take information - securely - from user's devices like location, contact's information, and music metadata to formulate the best information to serve a user's request. Since Apple will be taking information such as phone contacts and location, we truly think that "Assistant" will work just like the Siri iPhone application does; but fully integrated into the operating system. We can imagine a user asking their iPhone "Assistant" to set up a movie with one of their friends. The user might say "setup movie with Mark" and based on Mark's contact info and the user's location data, will be able to offer tickets to a local theater and send Mark the information.

The new Assistant system from Apple will take information from user applications and based on them will offer the best options for various tasks. The system will have access to the contact book, to the data regarding our location and with their help it will determine the best way to complete a task for us. It is not certain if this system will reach iOS 5 because the testing phase for it has just started, but if Apple considers it worth it then we will definitely have it available. Below you have a demonstration of the Siri system that could be the basis of Assistant.
