Safari for Mac OS X Lion has problems managing RAM

If you use Mozilla Firefox to surf the Internet, then you will surely have noticed at least once that Mozilla's browser consumes considerable amounts of RAM memory. It seems that Apple has configured Safari in such a way as to copy Firefox, at least in terms of the inefficient management of the resources available for the operating system. Safari Web Content is the process that creates the biggest problems for Mac users because it can end up consuming even 1 GB of RAM available in the system. With firefox I managed to reach about 2 GB, so there is room to "grow" for Safari.

Back to more serious stuff, Safari Web Content is a process that deals with rendering web pages, and it seems that Apple didn't configure certain things properly through Mac OS X Lion since Safari ends up requiring even 1 GB of RAM with only 4 sites open. It seems that certain extensions of Safari generate this uncontrollable consumption of resources and disabling all or only a part of them would solve the problem. Of course, this solution implies that there are extensions installed in your Safari.

For some, the problem was solved by deactivating the extensions, for others there are still problems, so it could be something from Safari itself. What experiences have you had with Safari 5.1 and Mac OS X Lion?
