In the case of the iPhone 4 launch, only a few countries in Europe plus Japan had the opportunity to launch the terminal at the same time as the USA and Canada entered the secondary wave of launches, so it is very possible that history will repeat itself this year.
October 1st is a Saturday, unusual for the iPhone terminal launches, so it is possible that the actual launch will take place on the 30th or in the first week of October.
