Apple rejects Samsung's proposal to end legal disputes in Australia

Last week I told you that Samsung proposed to Apple to an agreement whereby the latter consents to the launch of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet in Australia and to withdraw its lawsuits from the Australian courts. No one knew what this agreement entailed, but Apple did he refused anyway, the disputes between the 2 companies will continue until further notice. Apple's Australian lawyer declared during this evening in front of an Australian court that the agreement proposed by Samsung cannot be accepted by the Cupertino company that is trying to prevent the launch on the market of products that blatantly copy iDevices.

SYDNEY (Reuters) - Apple Inc rejected an offer from Samsung Electronics Co to help settle their tablet computer row in Australia, hoping for an important court victory there in its global campaign of patent litigation.

"It is one we do not accept and there is no surprise. The main reason we are here is to prevent the launch and maintain the status quo," Apple lawyer Steven Burley said. The decision as to not being available to conduct an early final hearing is no more than a tactical one — a tactical one which is designed to maximize the chances of Samsung launching what we would submit is an infringing product.

Considering that Apple no longer seems to be willing to participate in negotiations, it seems that the legal disputes between the 2 companies will not be resolved soon. Steve Jobs tried to mediate the conflict last year, but he had no cooperation from the Asians, and now Apple is playing the same card. Until now, Samsung has had the most to lose from the conflict opened by the company from Cupertino and as the situation presents itself, the future does not seem to bring many good things for the Asians considering that the patents on the basis of which they want to stop the sale of the iPhone 4S /5 would not have the necessary force to convince a court to do so.
