This is why Siri has a female voice

Most of the tests done so far using Siri brought to the fore a female voice that was implemented by Apple for the English, American language. CNN is trying to explain the decision of those from Apple who used a female voice and not a male voice in their own system. They offer several possible reasons for Apple's decision, and it all starts with the fetus responding to its mother's voice, continues with the female voices used in airplane cockpits in World War II, and ends with the fact that Americans are "nerds" and prefer to I hear a sexy, feminine voice when I use Siri.

Research suggests this preference starts as early as the womb, Nass said. He cites a study in which fetuses were found to react to the sound of their mother's voice but not to other female voices. The fetuses showed no distinct reaction to their father's voice, however. Another answer lies in history. According to some sources, the use of female voices in navigation devices dates back to World War II, when women's voices were employed in airplane cockpits because they stood out among the male pilots. And telephone operators have traditionally been female, making people accustomed to getting assistance from a disembodied woman's voice."

Siri's voice is far from sexy and those from CNN claim that Apple preferred to make a "robotic" voice to emphasize the fact that the iPhone 4S has an advanced technology implemented in it. A more logical explanation for not including a more human voice has to do with the space occupied by the Siri system, more precisely, a more natural voice would have occupied much more space in the operating system. Although for the Americans Siri has a female voice, for the French or the British Siri has a male voice and probably Apple was based on some market studies when it chose these voices and according to those studies the Americans look with good eyes on a female voice for their devices and the British and the French a masculine voice.

Only Apple can provide a clear explanation, but of course we will never hear anything from them.
