Yesterday I told you that MuscleNerd managed to access the bootrom of the baseband chip in the iPhone 4S and is approaching the launch of an unlock solution for this terminal. Miraculously, the iPhone 4S is the only device that has such a baseband vulnerability and I strongly believe that the next Dev Team unlock solution will only be for the iPhone 4S. It is not known if they have decoding methods for the iPhone 3GS/4, but for the 4S they discovered one and are developing it now.
Even if the iPhone 4S sells well and Apple promotes it strongly, what the Dev Team could do could increase the sales of iPhone 4S terminals. Such a device coded on a certain foreign network is much cheaper than one sold factory unlocked and if an unlock solution will be discovered for it, then many users will be tempted to buy the device. The low price and the temptation to have the newest iPhone will generate an increase in sales for Apple and here we have to thank those from the Dev Team who seem to have a good marketing strategy.
I think that this miraculous discovery of an exploit only in the baseband in the iPhone 4S is far from accidental and I think that many owners of non-decodeable iPhone 4 will remain disappointed.
