Why was Siri released in beta version?

Apple launched Siri in a beta version available to iPhone 4S owners and many people wondered why Apple would have taken the decision to publicly test a product considering that it had never done such a thing before. Well the answer it's very simple: due to the complexity of the voice command recognition system implemented in Siri, a public beta test is the only way to constantly improve the system to bring it close to perfection and significantly improve the user experience.

Voice command recognition systems are very difficult to develop and to be improved they must be used in the most diverse ways. By launching Siri in public beta test, Apple engineers receive all kinds of information for the assistant and by analyzing them they know what needs to be improved in order to make the assistant answer any questions. For Apple, this solution was and is the best and the company announced at the iPhone 4S presentation conference that Siri is available in beta version.

From the information collected from users, Apple engineers can improve the functionality of Siri either remotely through Apple's servers or directly through updates for iOS 5. The method used by Apple is far from conventional but in the end it will prove to be a winner because it will brings a much better voice command recognition system than the ones available so far.
