Microsoft refuses to recognize the existence of the Office application for the iPad

Yesterday I told you that The Daily published an image of what appeared to be the Microsoft Office application for the iPad tablet. Shortly after its publication, a Microsoft spokesperson stated that that application does not exist and that The Daily presented a false image. During the night there was a hard exchange of lines between Microsoft and The Daily, all ending with a refusal to recognize the existence of the Microsoft Office application for iPad and with a new image published by The Daily, an image in which the icon from Springboard of the Office application would be presented to us. Here's what Microsoft told various publications:

By New York Times:

"The Daily story is based on inaccurate rumors and speculation. We have no further comment."

By ZDNet:

A Microsoft spokesperson said the screen shot accompanying The Daily's story is not a picture of a real Microsoft software product. But the spokesperson also said Microsoft is declining to comment as to whether or not the company has developed a version of Office for the iPad and/or when such a product may come to market.

And the comment of a Microsoft employee for MacObserver:

Danell Arvberger, Sr. Category Manager – Office for Mac, said, “Interesting, this is the first I've heard of it. Thanks for sharing the article. If I find anything out and able to share I will let you know."

The conclusion is that Microsoft would like to keep the entire project of the Office application hidden, now the big question is why would they want to do this since so many people want to see the application.
